Oh, hi there *wwwwwwwink*
How’s everyone keeping along, these days? It’s been a few days since my last post.. so I figured I should get my act together and write all y’all.
I’m in the process of re-finishing (well, sanding, painting and distressing) an old washstand for Rain’s dad to sell at the antique store he works at. I’d post a picture, but well, the camera’s dead and it’ll just be more dramatic as a comparison when it’s all finished. It was in pretty rough shape to start with, but I scraped off the excess paint, then sanded ‘er on down. She’s in the process of getting a nice coat of mildew/mold resistant paint, then I’m gonna rough ‘er up a bit so she looks like she has a story to tell. Then it’s just a matter of time before she can sit pretty in somebody’s bathroom. Have I meantioned before, how much I love giving new life to people’s throw-aways? The stink of this thing though, when I first started sanding it. Jeebus.
Other things on the go? In the midst of reading 3 books at once, and planning my gardens. What three, you ask?
As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis Devoto edited by Joan Reardon
I know, I know. Nobody’s surprised. It’s really a fascinating read though, I swear!! Particularly so, if you’re in to cooking, nostalgia for the 40′s and 50′s, or Julia Child in general. I’m not finished yet, but it’s wonderful thus far.
The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night by Elizabeth Pantley

Again, not finished, but this is the one I’m closest to finishing. I’m reading it for fairly obvious reasons.. I’d like Cordelia to sleep more soundly throughout the night, and I refuse to let her “cry it out” to make it happen. It works for some families, so have at it if that’s what tune you want to dance to, but it isn’t for our house. So far, it’s offered me a really great perspective on the whole matter, and is gearing me towards changing our day to day routines significantly. Which means.. if she’s sleeping better (meaning, without me being within 5 feet of her for fucksakes), I will have more time for myself, and therefore, more time for blogginess! Huzzah! Also…. I’m a real twat if I don’t get enough sleep. I’m the type that will rip your head off and shit down your throat if you wake me up unnecessarily… Cordelia’s the only person alive that can get away with it.
The last book, deals directly with that new exciting thing that I’m venturing in to.. so I’m not going to give away what it is… not yet. In fact, it’s probably going to be a little while before I do.
Garden wise, we’ve been discussing extending our garden pretty drastically. Last year we grew enough to have some fresh veggies every day, but this year I would like enough to can and get us through winter. We have grape vines, wild apples, and about 1/4 acre of blackberries on our property, not to mention many other wonderful things as well, but we’re really going to work hard at our vegetable garden this year. Cold weather crops in last years garden, and a whole new garden on the other side of the house. I’m also thinking of doing a medium sized flower bed, way out in front of the house so that it greets us on our way home. We’re also going to put in a few fruit trees. Lots of time spent out doors this summer, methinks.
What’s new with you? Are you thinking about your garden? We use heirloom organic seed, what do you use and grow? What new things do you have on the go? Work, play, what? Drop me a line in the comment section below, I love hearing from you!

show feet.
you wish.
I just left this long reply about my Bramble pulling experience and then I lost it when the site asked me to sign in. Sorry I need my tea now and wiil write again. I love your site and you write wonderfully. You make me want to read Julia Child, whom to my my embarassment, I made fun of as a youth. I know, I know… Consider this the confessions of an old hippy with a weird sense of humour.
I feel you on the need for a caffeinated beverage. Coffee is screaming my name right now. I can totally understand why you made fun of Julia Child as a kid, she was a real character.. and that voice! She’s also not the type of icon that many children would realize was so amazing, it’s hard to see her through her voice in that age frame. I absolutely recommend that book though, it’s a really fascinating read.
